A different kind of finance, born in Cornwall
We started FOLK2FOLK in 2013 to solve a simple but urgent problem. More than a decade later, we’re still doing what we do best: connecting people to enable regional prosperity.
The problem & our solution
Businesses shut out. Investors shut off.
In the wake of the 2008 global financial crisis, a problem was unfolding in rural areas across the UK. Traditional lenders were pulling back. Good rural and regional businesses could no longer get the finance they needed to grow.
At the same time, local investors were stuck earning poor returns, with little connection to what their money was doing.
Bringing both sides together.
We were born from a small firm of local solicitors with clients on both sides. By bringing both sides together and enabling people to lend directly to businesses, secured by property, we could unlock funding for SMEs and create attractive income opportunities for investors.
It was a win-win. Fairer, faster, and more personal than the banks.
Our growth
From local to national
While we began in Cornwall, this problem was evident in rural and regional areas right across the UK. Since then, we’ve facilitated nearly a billion pounds in loans to small businesses across the country.
While our footprint has grown, our mission hasn’t changed: to create and sustain prosperity in the rural and regional parts of the UK.
