Are you ready for the Animal Health Pathway?

04 Oct, 2021

Our next #HelpfulFOLK webinar we will continue our theme of helping you navigate the greatest upheaval of agricultural support for a century as direct payments are phased out and we move to an era of ‘public payments for public goods’.

The Animal Health Pathway is a Defra backed proposal to improve the health and welfare of English farmed animals by controlling and eventually eliminating endemic diseases. Set to begin in Spring 2022 with a vet visit, funded by the government. Undertaking a health and welfare review of the farm, including diagnostic testing, will set the foundations for the journey along the pathway. Animal Health and Welfare Grants will be launched in 2022; details will be announced in October.

Is it time to have a radical rethink about the use of antibiotics, or the type of antibiotics we use? The UK has some of the world’s highest animal welfare standards and it is vital that we continue to provide safe, affordable, and nutritious food for all. In the world of plant health, neonicotinoids were banned and this has dramatically reduced the acreage of oilseed rape as we cannot control cabbage stem flea beetle – are we able to cope with such a shock in the animal health world?

Our expert speaker on the 7 October is Aled Rhys Davies, a man with a mission to find alternatives to antibiotics. A Nuffield Scholar, Aled travelled the world for two years studying ‘Alternatives to Antibiotics in Agriculture.’  A most engaging and knowledgeable speaker, Aled spoke at our last run of FOLK2FOLK Dairy Seminars and this will be a ‘must listen to’ event.

  • When: Thursday 7 October from 11.30am
