The importance of working for a company with shared values

FOLK2FOLK is a collection of people with a shared attitude and commitment that goes beyond just a paycheck. We’re growing and so far this year we’ve advertised four new roles, with more coming soon! So, it’s always exciting to hear that people are attracted to work for FOLK2FOLK because of our ethos and an alignment of values.  FOLK2FOLK has a strong culture of helping people, fairness and doing what we say we will; something our people, our customers and our FOLK2FOLK friends believe in.

Henri recently joined us as a Credit Risk Analyst, and he had this to say about why he wanted to join FOLK2FOLK:

“Part of the attraction of FOLK2FOLK was the ‘human to human’ element. My experience of other companies in the industry, is that they’re very cold and impersonal. I didn’t feel like this fit with my values. I wanted to know that I was going to be making a positive difference, rather than just being valued on a numerical output. The personal element was important to me – we are all human, but some businesses are better at recognising that than others. Even before I got the job, after my interview, I knew that this was the kind of company I wanted to be a part of.

Also, I’m very aware that big cities, especially London, get funding poured into them. I grew up in rural areas and in my youth there was really not much to do unless you went to the nearest city. FOLK2FOLK’s focus on regional growth fit with my ideas that regional areas need funding and support, or they will be left behind to the detriment of all of us.

Furthermore, the approach FOLK2FOLK takes its investments, being choosy over borrowers etc, signalled to me that this wasn’t just a company who wanted to make a good profit but wanted to benefit the communities it serves. The concept of FOLKONOMICS™ also attracted me. Yes, we are providing funds to borrowers, but these borrowers are part of communities who will benefit, something we believe strengthens these communities, economically and socially, and will lead the way to regeneration of regional areas.”
